Darren McFadden: 2019 College Football Hall of Fame Inductee
Later this year, Darren McFadden, the electrifying running back from the University of Arkansas, will become the tenth Razorback inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. As one of the most renowned players in Arkansas history, McFadden was a two-time runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, a Walter Camp and Doak Walker Award recipient and a two-time SEC Offensive Player of the Year. Over the course of his stellar college career, he received 25 first-team All-America honors in just three years at Arkansas.
A Razorback Legend
McFadden made an immediate impact as a freshman running back, rushing for 1,113 yards followed by a career-best of 1,830 yards his final year. He still ranks second on the SEC career rushing list with a staggering 4,590 total yards, while averaging 120.8 yards per game. He also rushed for a school record of 100 yards or more in 22 games.
His athletic ability made him the focal point of the Razorback’s “Wildcat” offense. This meant he often took direct snaps in the quarterback position, hauled in receptions, and utilized his speed to leave defenses in the dust. McFadden excelled in the face of stiff competition and racked up 2,928 rushing yards in 21 games against SEC teams with winning records and ranked non-conference opponents.
Following his incredible three years as a Razorback, McFadden looked toward a professional career. In the 2008 NFL Draft, he was selected as the fourth overall pick by the Oakland Raiders. He played for the Raiders from 2008 through 2014 and went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys from 2015 through 2017. He finished his professional career with 5,421 career rushing yards and 28 touchdowns.
The College Football Hall of Fame will officially induct Darren McFadden in New York on December 10, 2019, where he will become a member of this year’s legendary College Football Hall of Fame Class. On December 27, 2019, the Hall will host an enshrinement ceremony in Atlanta honoring McFadden and the other members of the Class of 2019.
