Throwback Thursday: Archie Griffin, Ohio State

The only two-time winner of the Heisman Trophy, Archie Griffin is a living folk hero for Ohio State football fans.

Few can doubt his accomplishments, which include leading the Big Ten in rushing for three straight years, starting four consecutive Rose Bowl games, tallying more than 100 yards in an NCAA record 31 straight games and twice breaking the school’s single-game rushing record.

In addition to his two Heisman Trophies, Griffin was twice named the UPI Player of the Year and Walter Camp Foundation Player of the Year, and Sporting News named him Man of the Year in 1975.

After spending nine years in professional football between the NFL and USFL, Griffin returned to Ohio State and earned his MBA. His time after football has been devoted to enhancing opportunities for student-athletes through his work with the Wendy’s High School Heisman award program, as well as promoting the work of his alma mater as the president and CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association.
