Bio

Ralph Guglielmi became Notre Dame's starting quarterback the third game of his freshman year. He held the job from 1951 through 1954. In 1954, he was a unanimous All-America and fourth in the Heisman voting. In his career, he ran for 12 touchdowns and passed for 18. He completed 209 passes for 3,117 yards. He played defensive back and had ten interceptions. He returned two kickoffs for 15 yards. Guglielmi played in the 1955 College All-Star Game and was voted Most Valuable Player on the college team. Coach Frank Leahy called him "Notre Dame's greatest passer." He played one year with the Washington Redskins, then enlisted in the US Air Force. He served 1956-58. He returned to pro football, playing with the Redskins, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, and Philadelphia Eagles through 1963.
