Game On! Rivalry Day is Back at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame

Fans can experience this year’s matchups Hall of Fame style during GameDay Tailgate, Built by The Home Depot on Saturday, November 30

150 years of epic rivalries are celebrated daily at the College Football Hall of Fame and fans who visit on Saturday, November 30 will experience the Hall’s annual Rivalry Day GameDay Tailgate, Built by The Home Depot, filled with tailgate games, up to 4 matchups live on our 36-foot video board, trivia, prizes and more*. Fans can even create a tombstone for their team’s biggest rival and bury them for good in our rivalry graveyard.

One of the most anticipated days in all of college football, Rivalry Day is full of exciting victories and devastating losses. The rivalry tradition is so steeped in the game that The Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame has an entire exhibit dedicated to showcasing each team’s most legendary matchups alongside timeless rivalry memorabilia. Here’s a sneak peek at some of our fan favorites from the Rivalry Exhibit in the Hall.

Rivalry Trophies

• Wooden Shoes – The winner of the Hope College (MI) vs. Kalamazoo (MI) game takes a pair of wooden shoes home to add to their trophy display plus bragging rights for the next year. If they tie, each gets one shoe.
• Paul Bunyan Axe – Played annually since 1890, Minnesota vs. Wisconsin is the most-played rivalry in the FBS. The Paul Bunyan Axe has been taken back to campus by the game’s victor each year since 1948.
• Indian War Drum – One of the oldest rivalries dating back to the 1890s, Kansas and Missouri started playing for this drum in 1937.

The Rivalry Exhibit also includes a variety of game day programs and tickets, along with more notable artifacts like Gary Tyrell’s trombone from the infamous 1982 Cal vs. Stanford game and a gameball used during Lehigh’s 35 point loss to Lafayette in 1899; a matchup known as college football’s oldest rivalry.

The display also boasts eight 12-foot pillars highlighting rivalries that date from the 1800s to present and two interactive viewers guests can scroll through to see their favorite team’s rivalry history and current standings.

“Rivalry Day is one of our favorite moments during the season because it brings out the fan in all of us,” said Dennis Adamovich, CEO of the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame. “College football fans can visit us anytime and relive some of the worst and greatest moments with their team’s archrival.”
