Bio
Dartmouth tackle Ed Healey was once described by All-America selector Walter Camp as the best he ever saw. His full name was Edward Francis Healey Jr., and he grew up on a farm outside Springfield, Massachusetts. He had eight sisters and no brothers. Healey first played at Holy Cross in 1914 and then at Dartmouth in 1916, 1917, 1919, with one year out for Army service. He played in the National Football League from 1920-27 with Rock Island and the Chicago Bears and was all-pro five times. Healey worked as a sales manager for several firms and moved several times. Wherever he made his home, he took on added duties as an assistant football coach. He had such jobs at two universities, Creighton and Notre Dame, at Culver Military Academy, and at high schools in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Rock Island, Illinois. He is in both the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame.
