Bio
Cal middle guard Ed White became a consensus All-America in 1968. He was on the same All-America line with Hall of Famers, Joe Greene, Ted Hendricks and Bill Stanfill. He was a three-time all-conference player. In 1968, he anchored a California defense that allowed only five rushing touchdowns in 11 games. At California he won the Brick Muller Award, given to the school's best lineman, in 1967 and 1968. In 1997, he returned to California as a member of the coaching staff. Ed was born and raised in San Diego and had a long association with his hometown. He played high school football there, the school has named the football field for him. He had a 17-year pro career, some years with Minnesota and some with San Diego. He became an assistant coach at the college level, and he was on the staff at San Diego State. And in 1996 the San Diego chapter of the National Football Foundation gave White the Tom Hamilton Achievement Award.
