Bio

Any list of the greatest centers of all time always includes the name of Bob Peck. He would implore his team by shouting, "When Peck fights, the team fights!" It was not long before the Pitt cheering section took up the call to arms. "When Peck fights, the team fights!" It became the battle cry. Indeed, Peck was a leader of the Panthers during one of their finest eras. In his sophomore season, the Panthers won eight of nine games. Then Glenn "Pop" Warner took over as head coach and Pitt immediately ran off two unbeaten and untied seasons, going 8-0-0 in 1915 and 8-0-0 once again in 1916, and winning the National Championship in the last of those two campaigns. Peck was the Panther captain that year and repeated as an All-America selection, the first Pitt player to receive such national recognition. He was the roving center, and led the interference for the famous single and double-wing formations Pop Warner was then perfecting. Peck was small at 5-9 and 179 lbs. yet was outrageously aggressive. After graduation, Peck served as Athletic Director of the Culver Military Academy.
