New to the Archives: Northern Illinois Coach Thomas Hammock’s Cap and Shirt

On September 7, 2024, the Northern Illinois Huskies made history by defeating the #5-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 16-14, at Notre Dame Stadium. This marked the first time Northern Illinois—or any MAC school—toppled an AP Top Five team. The game was decided by NIU kicker Kanon Woodill’s 36-yard field goal with just 31 seconds left on the clock.

One of the most unforgettable moments came post-game, when Coach Thomas Hammock broke down in a heartfelt interview, thanking his players for their belief and dedication. Now, his cap and shirt, along with an autographed game ball and sideline pass, are part of our archives, capturing the spirit of this incredible victory.
