Bio

Fred Martinelli coached Ashland 35 years, 1959-93, served on the NCAA Nominating Committee, and the College Division All-America Committee. His record was 217-119-12, a winning percentage of .641. Fred began his career at Bellville and Bryan (OH) high schools. He coached 72 All-America players and two National Football Foundation Scholar-Athletes. His 1967 and 1972 teams were undefeated. His teams won five championships in the Heartland Conference and four in the Mid-Ohio Conference. His 217 victories ranked 27th on the all-time list of coaching wins. Martinelli was also Ashland's Athletic Director and brought women's athletics to the school. Martinelli played football at Otterbein in 1948-50. He then served on the College Football Hall of Fame divisional selection committee.
